I normally try to avoid predictions — they have a nasty tendency to come back and bite me on the ass — but I’m going to go out on a limb and toss out a prediction for the immediate future. And it involves the UN’s vote — when it happens — about Palestinian statehood.
Should it somehow come to pass despite the vows of the US to veto it in the security council, there will be wild celebrations in the West Bank and Gaza — which will promptly turn into protests and riots and attacks on Israelis.
Should it be vetoed, there will instantly be mass protests in the West Bank and Gaza — which will lead to attacks on Israelis.
(Just between you and me, this isn’t that bold a prediction. When the Palestinians get worked up, regardless of the cause or the underlying sentiment, their response is always the same — “let’s go kill some Jews!”)
