Devo Is Releasing A New Song About Mitt Romney’s Family Dog Seamus

The iconic 1980’s new wave band Devo is set to release a new single later this month entitled “Don’t Roof Rack Me, Bro! (Remember Seamus),” according to Rolling Stone. They’ve even setup a website called Remember Semus to promote the now well-worn story of the Romney family dog who was transported on the roof of the family sedan in an airtight kennel when he had diarrhea.

And today President Obama himself even brought the topic up, as reported in The Wall Street Journal:

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – President Barack Obama gave Mitt Romney a rare needling over the Republican candidate’s now infamous decision to put the family dog, Seamus, in a carrier and strap it to the roof of the car during a road trip to Canada.

Mr. Obama, drawing a contrast between him and Mr. Romney on alternative energy issues at a campaign event Tuesday, was criticizing the former governor’s assertion that “You can’t drive a car with a windmill on it.”

“I don’t know if he’s actually tried that. I know he’s had other things on his car,” Mr. Obama said, drawing laughter from a crowd at a farm here.

Given the President’s history with dogs, this seems like an attack destined to backfire. The Weekly Standard fired back with Obama himself reading from one of his several autobiographies about the time he ate dog:

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chili peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy),” Obama says in the video. The passage is also available from Google Books.

Perhaps the best summation to this is this joke from Jim Treacher:
